Peggy Sue Kelcher (Kathleen Turner) is a about to become a young mother, and seems to be married to a wonderful man named Charlie Bodell (Nicolas Cage); until she discovers that her so called Mr. Wonderful is having an affair. Soon she is thrust into a divorce and into a spiraling state of depression. She decides to go to her high school reunion, in hopes to rekindle those feelings of being the most popular girl in school, but things take a turn when she passes out and wakes up in the past. She discovers she is back in her high school days and while she is racking her brain to find a way back to the present, it begins to dawn on her that she can change her future.
