"Tommy" (1975) is based on the "Rock and Roll" group "The Who"s album, by the same name. This was their first, of two, full-scale rock operas. Tommy (Roger Daltry, lead singer and guitarist for The Who) becomes a world cult leader after enduring a life of abuse, neglect, indulgence and corruption. These evils are administered by his relatives, Uncle Ernie (Kieth Moon, drummer for The Who), his mother (Ann Margret), his step father (Oliver Reed), and his therapists like "The Acid Queen" (Tina Turner). There is a cameo appearance by Elton John. Eric Clapton and Jack Nicholson also appeared, as well as the entire "The Who" band. This movie helped re-define the band while at the same time re-defining a generation that had just survived the sixties. Today, thirty years later, whenever someone is being especially difficult to understand the common saying is "Tommy can you hear me?". This movie is an all time classic.
