This dramatic retelling of the true story of the 1980 U. S. Men's Olympic Hockey team follows coach Herb Brooks (Kurt Russell) as he puts together a team of young college hockey stars to take on the Soviet powerhouse team, thought "unbeatable" by everyone but Brooks. Brooks puts together a team he believes can beat the Russians, including players who bring their old regional rivalries to the team. With the fighting amongst teammates and the doubts of the committee overseeing the team, Brooks stays headstrong and fights to bring the team together into a cohesive unit. The film culminates with the famous game against the U. S.S. R. hockey team, meticulously re-enacted to the exact timetable of the game. Using the unique strategy masterminded by Brooks, which called for tough defense from players like Jack O'Callahan (Michael Mantenuto), aggressive forwards like team captain Mike Eruzione (Patrick Demsey), Mark Johnson (Eric Peter-Kaiser), and Rob McClanahan (Nathan West), and brilliant goaltending from Jim Craig (Eddie Cahill), would it be possible for the impossible dream to become reality?
